Sent to Lake Macquarie City Council 4 minutes later.
FixMyStreet ref: 1641.
A drunk firebug started a bushfire here at around 9.30PM by letting off fireworks on the beach and along the path. This was culpably dangerous as there was a 20-30 kmh NE wind blowing flames straight at houses a short distance downwind. I witnessed the main fire begin as a small ellipse ~ 10 m across. The fireys wasted ~15 mins trying to remove LMCC stanchions to get an appliance down the path. In this time the fire crowned in trees and started an ember attack on houses in Seacliff. That delay might have cost houses. LESSON: Fireys MUST have keys or access codes to LMCC path locks. I hope you catch this cretin. I have his beercan in an evidence bag and his incendiaries if you want them for testing.
Update: Some days after the arson the police uniform branch arrived to collect the evidence. They were surprised their detectives had no-showed. Fireys also came back and found their hydrant was blocked by dirt washed in from the gutter, due to a faulty installation. They checked all street hydrants and re-sprayed ... something they MUST do annually as per standard Fire Brigade training in other countries.
